BEFORE OPERATION

Initially, the surgeon will perform a medical examination to ensure that you are healthy, and then he will ask you to stop smoking well before the surgery. Avoid taking aspirin and some anti-inflammatory drugs because they may increase bleeding.

DURING OPERATION

The operation will be under local, intravenous or general anesthesia and your surgeon will discuss the best option for you

Incisions for otoplasty are generally made on the back surface of the ear. When incisions are necessary on the front of the ear, they are made within its folds to hide them.

 Internal, non-removable sutures are used to create and secure the newly shaped cartilage in place.

AFTER OPERATION

After the surgery, the patient must rest and keep his head elevated to reduce edema and swelling.

Who is a good candidate for otoplasty?

A good candidate for otoplasty:

• healthy
• Age 5 years and over until the child’s ear cartilage is stable enough for correction
• non smoker
• Able to communicate their feelings and do not voice objects when surgery is discussed
